In the case you have received a letter demanding that you pay council taxes, please apply for an exemption. If it’s your case, you can also request a “Council Tax Exemption Letter” to the EM Normandie administrative office in Oxford, confirming your student status.
  • Under the circumstance of you being asked by your landlord to prove your ‘Right to rent in the UK’:

– EU student: as a European passport holder and having the proof of entry in the Uk should be enough to prove it. In the rise of any issues remark by the landlord, please come to the EM Normandie administrative office in Oxford (more information here, page 44).

– Non EU-student: please come to the EM Normandie administrative office in Oxford for assistance.

  • Strongly unadvised to make any payment before signing a contract. All further payments (including deposit) and length of rent should figure in the tenancy agreement.
  • Any security deposit asked should never exceed the equivalent of 6 weeks rent.
  • A guarantor is not compulsory, but it may make it easier for you to pay your rent monthly. The guarantor needs to be a British citizen and earns 3 times the rent amount.
  • Payment of several months’ rent (sometimes up to the full amount) is sometimes required upon entry into the accommodation (after signing a tenancy agreement). We recommend negotiating a monthly payment (depending on your situation, some residences may accept).
  • Please consider to get a mobility insurance. Our partners:
